עוד כמה דקות שם- I'm late

Self perception is always tricky. I may think I'm punctual but at some hidden corner of my mind I have to accept that I'm constantly, even chronically tardy (side note to my family, most of which are lawyers- this post does not constitute as testimony nor will it hold in court). The worst thing is that excuses for tardiness always make sense for me. Be it that that bus was late, I couldn't get a taxi, or that the app that was supposed to predict when the bus would arrive was faulty. Though I do sometimes, simply try to do too many things in ten minutes.

Maybe that's the reason I'm drawn to Christian Marclay's "The Clock", exhibited until October 17^th in The Israel museum, Jerusalem.   Curated by Talia Amar, the work pieces together video clips which are edited into a 24 hour video. Each video contains a reference to the local time where the piece is screened- whether by zooming in on a watch or clock featured in a scene or in the dialogue itself. This creates an imaginary space which the audience shares with the on screen actors. The narrative is composed from short sequences taken from feature movies- Hollywood and ones less recognizable. It is fragmented, thus allowing the viewer o insert his/ her own interpretation into the gaps, making sense out of a jumble of images. The music that the artist superimposes over the footage is the unifying element of the work which contains clips from different genres and periods. Ultimately, the work makes time itself concrete, a force you cannot ignore while you choose to sit in that darkened room, in addition to raising questions about time, its meaning and its transience.

If you're in the Jerusalem area tonight you're in for a treat- the museum will be open for 24 hours for a special screening of "The Clock" starting 17:00 today (Wed 28th) and ending on Thursday the 29th at 17:00. Highly recommended. Another special screening will be held on September 24^th to 25^th at 14:00.

למרות שאני תופסת את עצמי כיקית המקפידה על זמנים אני למעשה מאחרת כרונית. (הערה לבני משפחתי המשפטנים- פוסט זה אינו משמש כעדות ולא יחזיק בבית משפט) והכי גרוע זה שאני מאמינה לעצמי לגבי כל תירוץ שגורם לי לאחר. בין אם זה האוטובוס, העובדה שלא הצלחתי למצוא מונית, הנחיות מוטעות של האפליקציה שאומרת מתי האוטובוס להגיע ולפעמים מזייפת או פשוט שניסיתי לדחוס יותר מדי דברים לזמן קצר.

אולי בגלל זה אני כל כך נמשכת לעבודה "השעון" המוצגת בימים אלה (ועד ה-17 באוקטובר) במוזיאון ישראל בירושלים. מדובר בקטעי וידאו שערוכים לכדי יצירה בת 24 שעות של האמן כריסטיאן מרקליי שאצרה במוזיאון טליה עמאר. כל קטע וידאו מכיל התייחסות לזמן המקומי בו העבודה מוצגת, בין אם על ידי קלוז-אפ לשעון שמופיע בסצנה או התייחסות לזמן בדיאלוג כך שנוצר חלל מדומיין שהדמויות על המסך והאנשים הצופים בו חולקים. הנרטיב המורכב כאמור מקליפים קצרים יותר ופחות מסרטים,  חלקם הוליוודיים וחלקם לא מוכרים, הוא מקוטע ונותן הרבה מקום לצופה שמנסה לפענח מה קורה מולו ולתת משמעות לסיפור המקוטע. את הקטעים מלווה מוזיקה שהאמן הוסיף והיא האלמנט שמאחד את הקטעים שהנבדלים אחד מהשני בז'אנרים ותקופות. יותר מכל המיצב הופך את הזמן לקונקרטי, עובדה פיזית שנמצאת מולך כל עוד אתה בוחר לשבת בחדר המוחשך בו הוא מוצג המעוררת גם שאלות יותר עמוקות בנוגע למשמעות של זמן וארעיותו.

היום, רביעי ה-28.8.13 ,תוצג העבודה החל מ-17:00 עד ל-17:00 ביום חמישי במשך 24 שעות כדי לאפשר למבקרים לראות חלקים של היצירה שבדרך כלל לא היו יכולים לראות עקב שעות הפתיחה של המוזיאון. מומלץ מאוד.  הקרנה מלאה נוספת תתקיים בין התאריכים 24-25 בספטמבר בשעה 14:00.
